Title : MediActive iCool Medicube
Review : Similar to the other review I just wanted to report that the Medactiv iCool Medicube I bought from you was the best purchase I have made since I needed to transport my Oroxine (Thyroxine) medication. It certainly lives up to its claim of keeping the medication between 2-8 degrees for 36 hours. I have been on several around the world flights of up to a total of 24-30 hours duration each (with stop over transfers) in the past year with it as a carry on and it’s kept perfect temperature according to the digital thermometer I used (which recorded the highest and lowest temperature encountered). Security check-ins in both Europe and the USA airports did study the laminated Doctors letter I kept with it but generally had no concerns with it. This was especially so when I explained to them that it was a medicine that needed to be kept cool like insulin - they seemed more familiar with insulin. A few key things though when going through the airport security screening: ☑️ always present the Medicube separately (take it out of your carry on luggage) - don’t just let it go through the scanner, it will always be detected ☑️ always declare to the relevant officers that you are transporting medicine that needs to be kept refrigerated - show them the doctors letter ☑️ always present the Medicube unzipped and show the officers what you have inside ☑️ if the officers want to handle the medicines warn them if you have needles - they are rightly very concerned about needle stick injuries ☑️ they will still put it through the scanner and nine times out of ten that will be it (as the officer advises the scanner operator of what is happening) although sometimes you may have to explain again to any subsequent new officers if it is hectic or they are being super strict. They then may then typically use a swab stick used for detecting any drugs/explosives ☑️ most importantly don’t present the gel packs in an unfrozen state (they look like gel instead of frozen ice) - it is a major problem. I made this mistake on one of the last legs of my flights as it was short and I didn’t have any medication left. It resulted in a full interrogation and strip search which wasn’t that pleasant. Apparently if it is frozen it doesn’t sound alarm bells (can’t be an explosive?) All the officers routinely lifted the frozen gel packs out to check they were truly fully frozen so I think it must be a standard instruction to them. Generally then there is no problem at the security check point at air ports with the Medactiv iCool Medicube if you go through the steps outlined above. The product truly works as claimed in keeping things cool. Regards Simon Eyland

Title : Travelling with Humira on long trip
Review : I found this to be an excellent product during a recent one month trip to the US (included half a dozen flights). The frozen blocks lasted the advertised time (plenty of time to spare for a 24 hour door-to-door trip). I was told in the US to make sure the blocks were frozen when boarding planes (even if medicine has been fully used) otherwise Security would take them off me (Security checked the blocks closely every time I boarded - but I had no problems). The need for freezing the blocks even if meds are used is important to remember for the trip home, particularly given the cost of the bag. Additional info - I gave the blocks to hotel reception to freeze upon arrival in the US (in labelled plastic bags) and kept the meds in the hotel room fridge before I needed to travel again. Hopefully this info helps someone.

Questions (18)
Hi I'm travelling to the USA with a flight time of 29 hrs. Will the medicube keep Byetta pens cold enough?

Hello, The iCool MediCube is big enough to transport all medications between 2 to 8°C for 36 hours. Thanks

Hi We have Medactiv iCool Medicube and my question can we take it in hand during the flight the concern about the re freeze Jel is it allowed . We use to store Growth Hormone wile traveling. appreciate your feedback, Mohammed

Hello, If you can please contact our health professionals on educators@diabetesnsw.com.au they will be able to assist with your query. Kind Regards,

Will this be able to hold 6 humira pre-filled pens and keep them between 2-8 C for 21 hours?

Hi. Yes, the Medactiv iCool Medicube will be able to hold 6 Humira Pen Fills and will keep them stored at 2-8 degrees Celsius for up to 36 hours.

I will be travelling to Europe with 2 Humera injections which will need to be kept between 2-8 degrees for about 36 hours before we get to our first hotel. The I-cube would take up a lot of space in my hand luggage. I see from your comments that the reason the Prestige can keep items cold for 24 hours and the Weekender only 12, is because it has a second gel pack. I was wondering if I could use the smaller Prestige, with an extra gel pack to extend its cooling effectiveness to last 36 hours.

Hi. Unfortunately, the majority of the extra size of the Medactiv iCool Medicube is due to the larger size of the ice packs its uses compared to the Medactiv iCool Presitge, so placing additional ice pack would not work. Also if you were to do so the ice pack would sit directly against the medication being transported, which could cause the medication to freeze.

Hi there, are the individual ice blocks in the cooler bag less than 100mL? I.e., can they be taken on international flights?

Hi The Medactiv iCool Medicube can definitely be taken onto international flights. Make sure you have a letter from your doctor outlining the medication you will be carrying, translated into another language if necessary. It is also important to make sure the freezer packs are frozen when boarding the flight.

Hi am traveling to Africa and am crying lantus and Novo rapid for a period of 6-8months, and this icool bag seems smaller to fit in that much. Is there any bigger size please? Thanks Martin

Hi Martin This is the largest bag we sell that keeps its contents stored at a fridge like temperature. If you are going to Africa a Frio Cooling Wallet may also be a good idea as they are activated by immersion in water, and will stop the insulin getting too hot when you are out and about for the day. An option to save on space may be re-usable insulin pens, these pens use 3ml penfill cartridges, which are smaller in size, so take up less space when travelling.

Hi, What is the weight of the bag with cool packs & what is the order lead time? Thank you

Hi. Medactiv iCool Medicube weighs 2kg. We have two postage options standard Australia Post parcel post, which you will receive within 5-10 business days, or express post for a delivery time of 3-5 business days.

Hi! I will travel from France to Asia by plane and I'm afraid my medicube won't pass the security control of the hand luggage...Do they usually detect it as a liquid? Thank you.

Hi Marie. We have had many customers take the iCool Medciube on international flights, however, if you are transporting medication it is important to make sure you have a note from your doctor. If you want more information on travelling with insulin please call 1300 136 588 and ask to speak with a Credentialed Diabetes Educator and please read the following information. http://diabetesnsw.com.au/useful-tools/travel-information/

Would this be suitable to carry cancer drug Octreotide 30 mg that only needs to be kept refrigerated until needed. Am looking to travel overseas later next year for around 7 weeks and the air travel seems to be the problem

Hi. Medactiv iCool MediCube will keep its contents safely stored at a temperature of between 2 - 8 degrees Celsius for up to 36 hours. The storage instructions on your medication will indicate whether this temperature range is adequate. Please note the external dimensions of the iCool MediCube are: 21cm Length x 21cm Width x 17cm Height. So the MediCube will take up a large part of your carry on luggage space.

Hi would the medicube hold 12 bydureon exenatide 2 mg pens which are held in seperate plastic containers. These are long pens and as I am traveling to Scotland approx 33 hrs will this hold. Thank u 4 ur help. Myra

Hi Myra. Internal storage space of the iCool Medicube is 9cm (width) x 18cm (length) x 14cm (height). An iCool Medicube will keep its contents stored at a temperature of between 2-8 degrees Celsius for 36 hours. A Frio cooling Wallet will keep its contents at a temperature of 18-25 degrees Celsius for 45 hours. Frio Extra Large has an internal storage space of 16.5 cm (H) x 19.5 cm (W). You may wish to discuss wit your GP, Endocrinologist or Diabetes Educator using refillable insulin pens, as the insulin cartridges used by the refillable insulin pens are much smaller. To get more information on different insulin pen types you can call 1300 136 588.

I typically carry six boxes of Lantus (5 cartridges in each box) (six months' supply) between two locations that each has a fridge. Is this the carrier I should be using? Donald

Hi Donald. Yes, if the lantus will not be refrigerated for a prolonged period, it is recommended that you use a cooler bag like the Medactiv iCool range, to keep the Lantus at a fridge like temperature.

Hi I am going to uk and France for 6 weeks and will need to carry 6 separate Bydureon pens. Will they fit in medactive iCool medicube. I have a couple of frio wallets but gather they will not be cold enough. Thanks

Hi Janet.

Hi Iam trying to find out if the Medicube is ok to hold Humira and cannot find anywhere to ask i have about 6 months supply approx 12 pens

Hi. The iCool Medicube keeps your medication between 2°C and 8°C for 36 hours. The internal storage space of the Medicube is 9cm (width) x 18cm (length) x 14cm (height).

Hello Please can you give me the outside dimensions of the icool medicube. Thanks Chris

Hi Chris. The Medactiv iCool Medicube is 21cm Length x 21cm Width x 17cm Height.

I am travelling overseas and need to know how many insulin pens will fit into the case. I use Humalog and Lantus insulin pens.

Hi. The storage cavity in the iCool Medicube is 9cm (width) x 18cm (length) x 14cm (height).
